This semester will focus on the writing of one persuasive, research -based editorial and one on -demand essay which takes a position on a topic about juvenile justice. It is essential after choosing your topic to complete several hours of background reading to understand all sides of the issue. You may be arguing one side, but you must be aware of the competing positions on your topic.

Our model for argumentative writing will be an Op Ed (opinion piece in the editorial section of a newspaper or online news site) titled “Jim Crow Policing” by Bob Herbert.
